INTRO TO COLD SPRING MOUNTAIN HOUSE - MEMORIES OF THE MACDANIEL FAMILY BOARDING HOUSE

Postcard of Cold Spring Mountain House - c Linda Mae Wilson Brownell/macdanielmountainhousememories.blogspot.com   Hi, my name is Linda Mae Wilson Brownell. This blog is to preserve memories of MacDaniel's Cold Spring Mountain House, Shady, New York, which was a boarding house that was run by my family. I wanted to share this postcard with you because, as you will notice it says MacDaniels Mountain House on the house. I don't know the people in the photo. From the dress of the lady in the background, I would assume mid-1800's. Boarding houses were the Bed and Breakfasts of yesteryear. They came into existence in the 1830's and 1840's and started to fade out in the mid-1900's. Guests stayed for much longer than a week or a night though. For families traveling with children it was an inexpensive alternative (especially because the full board price of for example - $8.00 a day per person and even less for children, included a room and three meals a day).
